DISCOM Smart Metering vs Society Sub-Metering - Two Different Problems
4 min read15 April 2026

What the DISCOM Smart Meter Does
The DISCOM meter sits at the point where your society takes supply from the grid. It measures total grid consumption for billing your society's bulk supply account. It is owned by the DISCOM and not accessible to your facility team.
What the DISCOM Meter Cannot Do
It has no visibility inside your building. It cannot measure per-flat consumption, DG consumption, enforce prepaid policies, or detect internal meter tampering. These are all sub-metering problems requiring sub-metering solutions.
Why Your Society Still Needs Its Own System
The DISCOM meter tells your society how much it owes the DISCOM. Your sub-meters tell you how much each resident owes the society. Two separate accounting systems. Both are necessary. Contact Sales.
