How to Choose a Smart Metering Vendor for Your Housing Society
Start With Certification, Not Price
The first filter is BIS IS:13779 (2020) certification. Any vendor who cannot produce a current BIS certificate should be disqualified immediately. Verify at bis.gov.in.
Ask About Dual-Source Capability
If your society runs a DG, dual-source metering is non-negotiable. Ask specifically: can your meter measure grid and DG on separate accumulators with separate tariff application, on a single device?
Evaluate the Full Stack
Evaluate meter, IoT connectivity, billing platform, consumer app, and AMC as a bundle. Who owns each component? Multi-vendor integrations create accountability gaps when things go wrong.
Check References and Data Ownership
Ask for reference projects of similar scale and ask who owns your historical consumption data. Ensure you can export your data if you ever change providers. PES has served housing societies since 2009. Contact Roopsikha at roopsikha@pesonline.co.in for a reference visit.
